Chapter Twenty
Our first date is going well. Jamie surprises me by being nervous when we arrive. The restaurant is really beautiful, it’s located in the best place, in-between a clearing at the edge of a small wood overlooking the harbour. The view is breath-taking, I wish I could keep my eyes off Jamie long enough to enjoy it. He finds it amusing when I whisper that to him. The food is very good not too fussy. He looks around the patio. There are a few other couples eating out here. They’re obviously on dates like us. Jamie shifts in his seat uncomfortably.
“Do you think everyone knows we’re here on a date?”
I smile, but I’m a little shocked that he’s the one who’s nervous. “What do you care if they do?”
“I care what people think about you. I’m not worried about me, I don’t care who knows I’m gay. You do.”
“Do I? I don’t know Jamie, it’s not like that. I mean I only really came out to myself a couple of months ago, so no one else is going to know yet are they? Give me a chance Jamie.” I hold his thigh under the table. “It will happen, I might not be selling my story in the Sunday papers but I won’t hide what I am from the people I love.”
We hold hands tightly. “How did you find out about this place? It’s not really a place tourists come to.”
I shrug my shoulders. “Have you been here before?”
He pauses; his eyes drift over the bay he has a faraway look in his eyes. “A long time ago, when I was a child, not since then.” He comes back to me, but when he smiles it’s a sad one. “I like it though. It’s changed a lot, from what I remember.” He looks around the restaurant his eyes fall on a blonde woman laughing with her date in the corner of the patio. He turns slightly pale.
“Are you Ok? You look pale.”
“I’m fine.” He shudders slightly. “I’m fine.”
I get the feeling that he can’t wait to get out of here. He's been a little out of sorts since he returned from Switzerland. He surprised me by turning up early in the morning. I think he's had bad time over the weekend, despite him telling me constantly that he was fine. I think it's unfair of Angel to make him spend the whole weekend with Scot just so he can spend time with Helaina. Angel can be selfish sometimes. He should have known that it would be hard.
I just know something’s happened with Scot. I knew that Scot wouldn’t let Jamie slip through his fingers that easily, I mean neither would I. We're in competition for him and I hate to lose, but Jamie and I aren’t together officially. I can't stop him from seeing other people until we both agree to be exclusive. I'm jealous of course, extremely. I want to be able to give him what he needs not Scot, but we're not ready for that yet.
